I and my two younger brothers have obtained 8 degrees from the CUHK Faculty of Engineering (FoE) between us! I believe we still hold the record for family loyalty over the past 30 years. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say how much we appreciate what we have learned in the various departments of the FoE. We would all recommend the CUHK FoE as the best choice to other family members!
This year the FoE celebrates thirty years of training many outstanding talents, who have gone on to become industry leaders in different areas. FoE professors and other departmental colleagues have fostered an outstanding academic culture of professionalism, passion, kindness, humility and a dedication to serving Hong Kong in their work – and they hand these values on to each new generation.
In the 17 years since I graduated in 2004, I have never stopped applying what I learned at the CUHK FoE to my career and community services. I am sure this momentum will continue to inspire me to find new ways to follow my passion and contribute to the culture of the CUHK FoE for another 30 years and more.

Congratulations on the thirtieth anniversary of the Faculty of Engineering!
I joined the EE Department before it became part of the Faculty of Engineering. I am glad that over the years engineering education and research in CUHK has grown to cover many more disciplines.
During the past few decades, we have experienced how technologies have changed human life. PCs have brought computing to households. Fiber optic technology links people around the world. Smartphones and 4G bring connection to people in remote areas. Digital payment by smartphones allows people in rural and remote areas to be included in the modern financial system. Going forward, AI, robotics, AR and Fintech are expected to bring even greater impact to human life.
I have enjoyed this journey very much!

It is a great honor for me to be able to share a few words about the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) on its thirtieth anniversary. I was fortunate enough to be among the first batch of graduates of the newly established FoE in 1992. It still feels like yesterday that I was rushing from class to class, learning from the best professors from around the world. Upon completing my master’s and doctorate degrees, I moved to the US to work in the high-tech industry here. That was when I started to truly appreciate how the world-class education I received from the engineering programme in FoE, and especially the personal tuition from the professors, had prepared me to take on real-world challenges.
I hope our next generation of students will also seize every learning opportunity offered by the Faculty and apply their knowledge to pursue their dreams.
